One way to get involved on campus

An organization at Southeastern Oklahoma State University located in Durant known as the Savage Storm Leaders; give students a chance to be more involved. They volunteer their time to welcome and help new students that are transitioning from high school to college. Savage Storm Leaders do more than help students. They also represent SOSU with pride.

Tamia Crandle, a sophomore SSL, says,“I joined SSL to be more involved on campus. It’s a way to meet new people and I highly suggest other people to join for those reasons.”

SSL carries on a lot of responsibilities, such as, commitment, making relationships, hosting events, improving leadership and they have to make sure to always have fun. Crandle added, “We help out with the summer freshman orientation, information orientation before school starts and we’re always there for the schooling events volunteering our time to help new students have fun and make new friends.”

In charge of the SSL, Mitchell Emberson, says, “I love how the leaders are the first ones to meet the freshman because it helps them start off the year with a few friends. I also love being able to watch the leaders grow in their leadership and come out of their comfort zone.”

If you have the motivation, time flexibility, positivity, and want to put yourself out there, applications to join SSL will be available the beginning of November. Be a role model, and also be a friend.
