Greek Life Recruitment at Southeastern Oklahoma State University

Recruitment at Southeastern Oklahoma State University for Greek Life is starting this week. Every semester, there are members of a sorority or fraternity who graduate or leave and the chapters fall under campus total.

Campus total is first set by 50% of the people that went through Fall Recruitment and in the spring, the total resets to the highest chapter size. If a sorority is under total, they go into Continuous Opening Bidding (COB), where the girls can start to bid on whom they want to recruit. If they don’t reach their campus total, then they remain on COB until that total is reached.

In the fall for sororities, there is more of a formal recruitment where girls go through a three-day process and they have to be invited back every night in order to come back.

Fraternities are different because they do 365 day recruiting, but SOSU does recruitment for them in the fall with just activities and a booth to get to know more about the Fraternities.

Anybody can go through recruitment as long as you are a full-time student with a 2.5 grade point average. The total sits between 30 and 40, but it does change every semester. As of right now, Alpha Sigma Tau is at 30 girls and Sigma Sigma Sigma is sitting at 21.

Mitchell Emberson, the director of Student Life at Southeastern, stated “We really push the sister/brother hood aspect of it and having people in your corner like that is one of the best things about joining the sorority and fraternity life.”

Besides gaining a family, you also gain leadership opportunities that help shape you for your career and who you want to be.
