Certified Steppa
Being a college student is very stressful, but think about being in college and involved in athletics. Chaotic, right? What about being in college, involved in athletics and running your own business? It can be pretty tricky, but for Scooter Baker, a sophomore football player at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, anything is possible.
Scooter Baker did not have any retail experience to help him come up with this business; he is just simply creative.
His close friends, more known to him as his brothers, have their own thing that they like to do, so he wanted his own thing too, so Baker created his own clothing line a year ago called, “Certified Steppa”.
Trying to balance football, school, and his clothing line aren’t all that hard for Baker, because he has his mom to call when he needs help. The clothing line doesn’t really interfere with anything because he tries to only handle it when he is back home in Jacksonville, TX, but when he gets big orders or when people place orders all at once, his mom helps him out by working out the stuff that he can’t really do while in school.
Baker stated, “I didn’t do this for the profit, I did it for the motivation that I got from it everyday.” Before Baker turned Certified Steppa into a clothing line, it was just on a hoodie for himself because it was motivation to him growing up. When he was younger, he heard someone explain Certified Steppa. “If you step on any obstacle that comes your way, don’t let it pull you down, just keep stepping and keep going, and when you do that it makes you feel like your certified for moving on no matter what life throws at you.” Baker explains.
If Scooter Baker had to choose between the clothing line and football, he would choose football. “I would choose football over the clothing line because it’s in my blood and it is my passion.” Baker stated.
Baker has been playing football most of his life and definitely longer than this clothing line has been up. “The clothing line is fun and all because people follow me and it’s my own, but football will always be where my heart is.” Baker added.
Certified Steppa offers hoodies, pants, shorts, t-shirts, car decals, and hats with any color, any size and for any age. Baker is in the process of trying to get crop top jackets and tops to get more people interested and to advertise something new. To keep the motivation going and growing, you can log on to Facebook and type in Certified Steppa to become a Certified Steppa yourself.
